Job Description:
Cleaners, also known as janitors or custodians, are responsible for ensuring that buildings and facilities are clean, sanitary, and presentable. They work in various environments, including offices, schools, hospitals, hotels, and commercial buildings.
Responsibilities:
- General Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, carpets, and rugs.
- Surface Disinfection: Clean and sanitize surfaces, countertops, desks, tables, and other high-touch areas to prevent the spread of germs and maintain hygiene standards.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean and disinfect restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures, and restock supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
- Trash Removal: Empty trash cans and recycling bins, replace liners, and dispose of waste in designated containers or dumpsters.
- Window and Glass Cleaning: Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions and tools to ensure streak-free results.
- Floor Care: Strip, wax, buff, and polish hard floors using floor machines and appropriate cleaning products to maintain their appearance and durability.
- Cleaning Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and floor buffers to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Supply Restocking: Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and consumables, and replenish them as needed to ensure adequate stock levels.
- Specialized Cleaning Tasks: Perform specialized cleaning tasks as assigned, such as carpet shampooing, upholstery cleaning, or exterior building maintenance.
- Compliance with Safety Regulations: Follow safety procedures and guidelines for handling cleaning chemicals, operating equipment, and ensuring a safe work environment for oneself and others.
Requirements:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, stoop, and lift heavy objects (such as trash bags or cleaning equipment) as needed.
- Attention to Detail: Thoroughness and attention to detail in performing cleaning tasks to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Time Management: Efficient time management skills to complete assigned tasks within designated timeframes and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Reliability: Dependability and punctuality in fulfilling scheduled shifts and responsibilities.
- Communication Skills: Basic verbal communication skills to understand instructions, ask questions, and communicate with supervisors or colleagues.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as cleaning services are often required outside of regular business hours.
- Workplace Safety: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols, including the proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Initiative: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative to identify and address cleaning needs proactively.
